Hackers hit U.S. water systems
About 36 water systems were targeted in Minnesota, and officials in at least seven states have pointed to Iran.

Family water
Official guidance says to plan one gallon of water per person, per day. When a boil-water notice hits or the tap stops, that's four gallons a day for a family of four. This kit turns a river, a lake or a rain barrel into clean water a gallon at a time — no pump, no power, no chemicals. Fill it, hang it and let gravity do the work.
What's happening right now
About 36 water systems were targeted in Minnesota, and officials in at least seven states have pointed to Iran.
The war that began in February keeps the Strait of Hormuz in crisis. Tehran warns any renewed war would be “longer and bigger.”
The EU asks every household for 72 hours of autonomy. Sweden and Norway now say a full week.
A severe winter storm threatened power outages across several states before it even hit.
You don't have to predict a war to be ready for one bad week. The water from your tap may not be safe to drink.
Why it works
Hang the bag and open the valve. No pumping, no squeezing, no batteries.
Blocks bacteria, parasites like Giardia and Cryptosporidium, microplastics and sediment.
A full day of drinking water for one person, in a single fill.
Water runs into the clean pouch, a bottle or the cooking pot.
The bag rolls up and the whole kit fits in a drawer, a car or a go-bag.
Push clean water back through the filter to restore the flow. Store it dry.
Inside the filter
Each fiber is a tiny tube with pores just 0.01 microns wide — thousands of times thinner than a hair. Water gets through. What makes you sick doesn't.
Dirty fresh water flows around the outside of the fibers.
Only water fits through the tiny pores in the fiber walls.
Bacteria, parasites like Giardia, algae, silt and colloids are blocked.
Filtered water flows up the inside of the fibers to you.
Simple by design
Open the roll top and scoop the bag full from a river, lake, pond or rain barrel.
Clip the strap to a branch, a door frame or a hook — higher than your pot or bottle.
Gravity pushes the water through the 0.01-micron filter. No pumping.
Fill the clean pouch, your bottles or the cooking pot.
The difference
Boiling works — as long as you still have gas or power.

Plan ahead
That's the official rule of thumb. This kit makes it from almost any fresh water source.
The kit covers drinking and cooking at home. A straw in every bag covers the rest.
Parents or grandparents who live alone are the most exposed. The Family 6-Pack covers them too.
Like every hollow-fiber filter, this kit is made for fresh water. It does not remove viruses, chemicals, heavy metals or salt, and it does not make sea water drinkable. When water may contain viruses or chemical pollution, combine it with purification tablets or boiling. Do not let a used filter freeze.
Questions
About 0.7 liters a minute with the bag hung high, so a full gallon takes around 5 to 6 minutes. Hang it higher for a faster flow.
The 0.01-micron hollow-fiber membrane blocks bacteria, parasites like Giardia and Cryptosporidium, microplastics and sediment. It does not remove viruses, chemicals, heavy metals or salt.
Fresh water: rivers, lakes, ponds and rain barrels. Under a boil-water notice it blocks bacteria and parasites, but not viruses — if the notice says to boil, do that too. Not sea water, and not water polluted by fuel or chemicals.
They do different jobs. The kit makes water for the whole family at home or at camp; the straw lets one person drink on the move. Many families keep both.
Push clean water back through the filter to clear the membrane. If it stays very slow after that, it's time for a new filter.
Rinse it, let it dry and keep it with your emergency kit. Don't let a used filter freeze: ice can crack the fibers.
